News of the Day

Col. T. C. Land, of Wilkes county, has left the office of the Iredell Express a vial of salt water, which flows from a tissue in a rock about 20 miles west of Wilkesboro in a never-failing stream.  Col. Land thinks the fountain is a tributary of the salt Springs in Virginia.

Rev. J. R. Graves, of Orange county, is confined with others at the Rip Raps as a political prisoner.

Captain Frank Buchanan has been made Admiral in the Confederate Navy—the highest office in the service—for his distinguished services in the great engagement with the Merrimac in Hampton roads.
